What You Need to Know About the Coronavirus and Cleaning Solutions to Prevent Illness in Your Home

purbloc blogger • Feb 26, 2020

The coronavirus is spreading among other viruses and it is important to know how to prevent illness in your home using products that actually work.

Coronavirus
Despite all the memes, the Coronavirus is no joke. It's spreading at an alarming rate, reaching further outside of China every day. Now more than ever it's important to stay cautious and do everything you can to keep the virus away from your home.

Here are a few things you can do to Coronavirus-proof your home and prevent an outbreak.

Meet the Coronavirus

The Coronavirus started in China and has now made its way to North America. It's believed that it started due to tainted exotic meat. This includes bats and pangolins, which are sold at some markets in China.

The virus traveled over to North America via passengers on planes. The disease is at its worst in China, but has still managed to make plenty of people in North America sick. It's been found in L.A., Toronto, Washington, Texas, and Boston thus far.

The virus is still being studied, but we do know how it's transferred. Much like the flu, it travels via bodily fluids like saliva and mucus.

If someone with Coronavirus sneezes, those particles go into the air and can latch onto others. Coronavirus is even zoonotic, meaning it can transfer to humans and animals!

What makes Coronavirus especially scary is that symptoms can stay dormant for up to two weeks. Scientists also believe you can become infected with the virus before symptoms start to show. This just underlines the importance of keeping your home clean when anyone is sick, even if you suspect it's not the Coronavirus.

How Do I Stop Coronavirus From Spreading to My Home?

If you live in an area where Coronavirus has been found, it's extra important to take precautions against it. Studies show that the virus can live on surfaces up to nine days. If you don't clean all the surfaces of your house, it could be hiding in wait.

Because Coronavirus travels like the flu, you can best combat it by regularly disinfecting your home. You're going to want to get some extra-strength solutions going as Coronavirus is particularly powerful.

Try cleaning the surfaces of your home with a product high in hydrogen peroxide. Most household products come in at around 3%, but commercial products can go as high as 7%. These 7% products will help kill the bacteria and stop the spread of the virus.

Get a good microfiber towel that you can use to wash surfaces. This will help combat the germs more directly.

Always wear gloves, a mask, and other protective gear if you think you may be cleaning off the Coronavirus. There's always a chance it could enter your system while cleaning.

Patty Olinger of the GBAC suggests that bleach is the best way to get rid of the virus. Spray it, let it sit for a few minutes, then wipe it off. Letting it sit ensures the bleach is killing all the germs it can.

Of course, staying protected outside the home is just as important as inside.

Cover your face with your sleeve or a tissue when you sneeze or cough. Wear a mask if you need it, and wash your hands regularly using soap and water or hand sanitizer. The more orifices (mouth, eyes, nose, any cuts) you keep covered, the less likely it is that the Coronavirus will enter your system.

In-Home Coronavirus Control

It's important to cover all your bases to combat the Coronavirus. That means people, surfaces, and the air.

Find a good cleaning solution that you can use frequently in your home. Something that uses bleach or hydrogen peroxide is good, but you can also try natural products.

Read the labels beforehand and see if they mention virus reduction. Products that do are your best bet.

A product like NANO GRAB air works to reduce germs, viruses, and more from the air. Because it's sprayed on to your homes air filters it will help to purify the air in your entire home, not just one room. You just spray on to your new air filters before installing them each time for fresh clean air.

Spray NANO CLEAN & degrease cleaner to clean and maintain every surface, appliance and furniture in your home on a daily basis or any time someone or their pet comes into your house. You never know what they could be bringing in, no matter how small the odds. Because the virus can spread through pets, this applies to dogs, cats, and other animals, too.

Make sure to clean your animals after they've been out in areas where Coronavirus may be present. Bathe them, brush them, and clean areas in the house that they frequent. Although it's rare that the virus travels to pets, it is still possible.

Some people believe that certain essential oils contain antiviral properties. While this has not been proven, anything is worth a shot. These oils include tea tree oil, which can be found in many natural cleaning products.

Just don't try tea tree oil exclusively to combat Coronavirus. Combine this with other products containing hydrogen peroxide. The more methods you try, the safer you'll be.

What If Someone in My Home Catches Coronavirus?

If anyone in your home shows symptoms of Coronavirus visit the doctor. Quarantine them to their room and make sure they can't spread the virus.

Give them their own Coronavirus survival pack. Include cleaning products, masks, gloves, and anything they might need to clean the areas they need to travel to in the home.

Even if it seems like a simple cold, or the flu, you never know. If you get sick, call in sick to work and rest. This is more important during a viral infection than ever.

Stop Spreading Coronavirus, Start Spreading Cleanliness

If you live in an area where Coronavirus has been found you can never be too careful. If we all take the proper precautions, we can cripple the spreading of Coronavirus and go back to a virus-free life.

Find a cleaning product that works for you and stay on top of your health, inside and outside of the house. You'll be thankful you did.
